Eye Examination by a boarded ACVO Ophthalmologist- ideally beginning at 1 year of age, annually, with the first test definitely before age of 2

  • Results registered with OFA - OR
  • Results registered with CERF

Hip Dysplasia

  • British Veterinary Association (BVA) Evaluation - OR
  • OFA Evaluation - OR
  • OVC Evaluation - OR
  • PennHIP Evaluation

Elbow Dysplasia

  • OFA Evaluation - OR
  • OVC Evaluation - OR
  • British Veterinary Association (BVA) Evaluation

Congenital Cardiac Database (Optional)

  • ARCH - ACVIM Registry of Cardiac Health - OR
  • OFA evaluation - exam by Cardiologist

Autoimmune thyroiditis (Optional)

  • OFA evaluation from an approved laboratory - yearly screening recommended until age 6, every two years after that until age 10

*Note – In addition to the breed specific requirements above, a CHIC requirement across all participating breeds is that the dog must be permanently identified via microchip or tattoo in order to qualify for a CHIC number.
