Breed Requirements

Chinese Crested


Eye Examination by a boarded ACVO Ophthalmologist- Yearly Exams Recommended

  • Results registered with OFA - OR
  • Registered with CERF

Patellar Luxation

  • OFA evaluation (minimum age 24 months)

Cardiac Evaluation

  • Advanced Cardiac Exam (minimum age 24 months) - OR
  • Congenital Cardiac Exam (minimum age 24 months)

Primary Lens Luxation

  • DNA based PLL test from an approved lab

prcd-PRA DNA Test

  • DNA based prcd-PRA test from an approved lab.


  • DNA based RCD3 PRA test from an approved lab

Congenital Deafness (Optional)

  • OFA evaluation based on BAER test

Hip Dysplasia/Legg-Calve-Perthes (Optional)

  • OFA evaluation - Since both HD and LCP evaluations are based on the standard VD radiographic view, dogs that receive a HD clearance are automatically eligible to receive a LCP clearance as well. The application to also generate a LCP number can be downloaded from the Applications section of the OFA website.

*Note - NEW CHIC requirements will go into effect on 6/1/17: a min age of 24 months will go into effect for the patella and cardiac exams, and the PLL, prcd-PRA, and rcd3-PRA DNA tests will all become required.

*Note – In addition to the breed specific requirements above, a CHIC requirement across all participating breeds is that the dog must be permanently identified via microchip or tattoo in order to qualify for a CHIC number.
